A Futuristic Classic

Inspired by the futuristic classic, the Epiphone Flying V boasts the same radical angular styling and full-throttle tone as its predecessor. Even before you plug it in, this solidbody electric guitar packs amazing sustain and midrange punch, thanks to its resonant mahogany body. Wrap your hand around the Flying V’s comfortable SlimTaper C-shaped neck, and you’ll appreciate how effortlessly you can tear up and down its easy-playing Indian laurel fingerboard. You’ll love how this axe sounds when you plug it into a British-style stack — it’s as arena-ready as a guitar tone can be. Epiphone Vintage Deluxe 18:1-ratio tuners and a LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and string-thru tailpiece round out the Epiphone Flying V’s impressive features.

A classic V through and through

The Epiphone Flying V is a classic V through and through. Fans of this iconic design will love the rich midrange character and sustain gotten from its mahogany body. Its set mahogany neck feels great in your hand, thanks to its comfortable SlimTaper C profile, with cutaways on both sides for unfettered fret access. It comes topped with an easy-playing Indian laurel fingerboard that’s sure to inspire. Its symmetrical headstock makes a perfect platform for a set of Epiphone Vintage Deluxe 18:1-ratio tuners. A LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and string-thru tailpiece complete the package.

ProBucker pickups deliver PAF-era clean and crunch tones

Bridge and neck ProBucker humbuckers equip the Epiphone Flying V for sweet cleans and decidedly classic lead and crunch tones. These pickups are made using Alnico II magnets — the same found in sought-after vintage PAF humbuckers — for rich, warm tone with crystalline highs and a tight bottom. The guitarists here at Sweetwater have discovered that with two volume knobs, a master tone, and a toggle switch, the Flying V enables you to dial in a diverse range of tone and attack as you hone your own style.

1958: a year of innovation

Like sleek, space-aged probes sent from a galaxy far, far away to test the tonal waters of planet earth, the Flying V and Explorer landed to reactions that ranged from total awe to out-and-out bafflement. While the Les Paul at least represented a post-modern interpretation of a recognizable blueprint, these two radical members of the Modernistic line were barely perceivable as guitars at all. Their bodies and necks were carved into super-angular shapes with no discernible bouts, wastes, or traditional cutaways of any sort. The Flying V was even verging on impossible to play sitting down — but who could sit for long while playing an instrument like this? These guitars were made for strutting, swaggering, wailing rock — it just seems no one quite realized it at the time. Even more than the groundbreaking Les Paul, the Flying V and Explorer were guitars aimed at a music that had yet to be born. In the late 1960s and '70s when heavy rock would rule stadium stages the world over, these bold guitars became the ultimate incarnations of the music.

  • Solidbody electric guitar inspired by the 1958 classic

YOWZA!!

I've always loved Vs, and have had great experiences with recent Epiphones. Gigged with LPs, a Genesis, 2 SG Customs and a Brendon Small Thunderhorse. All were of excellent quality and served me admirably...but I was waiting for that ONE V that spoke to me.
This is that one.
Build quality- excellent/outstanding. No finish divots, dents or orange peel. The neck joint is solid, with no overspray or buildup. The frets are well polished and even, and fret ends are (almost) snag free...only needed the Dremel for 2 frets on the bass side, but I'm VERY fussy. All hardware was tight and scratch free. Nut was well dressed and free of binding issues. The tuners are decent...they do their job, tho I'm tempted to upgrade them.
Electronics - Call me crazy, but I have NEVER changed out any Epi ProBuckers! They work for me, pure and simple. They're so similar to the PAFs and early DiMarzios I grew up with that I know how to get the tones I want. It helps that this has CTS pots and a Switchcraft selector, which are much better than the usual Alpha crap.
Playability - Dude, it's a V! Seated it's a challenge...tho it has the skid plate on the lower wing. It's actually a pretty good position for serious shredding of neo-classical metal! But we all know the true test is standing, and this V doesn't disappoint. The neck shape is a Slim Taper C, which seems to be a rather variable shape despite the CNC machining used.
Side note: I had two Epi SGs that listed the same neck shape, but were VERY different.
BUT the shape on this V is probably the most comfortable I've found!
Overall, this little beast rips! It looks cool as Mustaine, plays incredibly well, and can snarl like a P-38.
The rest is up to you!

Epiphone V!

Very nice guitar, feels great, plays nice, surprisingly lightweight too. Definitely worth the low price!

worth it

Love it, looks cool plays even better (once you set it up). Im 55yo, been playing Gibson since 85 Always wanted a Flying V but the Gibson version of the RI58 is very pricy and the other less expensive V's that Gibson make have the stop bar tail witch I don't care for (on the V). But when I saw this EPI RI58 I pulled the trigger and I am very pleased I did. I also got the EPI case for it and that is nice as well.
The Guitar looks great and feels great. I love the neck its very smooth.
I oiled the fret board, put on my favorite strings, lowered the action and was off.
