Short-scale Bass for Pounding Rock Tone

Packing a world-renowned Magnetic Field Design (MFD) humbucking pickup in an ultra-comfortable contoured body, the G&L Tribute Fallout delivers undeniably fat rock tone along with eminent playability. With its 30" scale length, this short-scale bass speaks with a powerful and deep voice, and it's a versatile voice indeed — a three-way pickup selector allows you to choose from distinct series/split/parallel pickup coil configurations. The Tribute Fallout's attack is fast, punchy, and resonant, largely thanks to the acclaimed Leo Fender-designed Saddle-Lock bridge. If you're looking for a stage- and studio-ready short-scale bass at a budget-friendly price, your expectations will be exceeded with the G&L Tribute Fallout short-scale electric bass.

Magnetic Field Design pickups bring the thunder

The Tribute Fallout bass owes much of its bone-rattling tone to its single Magnetic Field Design humbucker. Unique to G&L, Magnetic Field Design pickups are built around a ceramic bar magnet laid under each coil, and they feature individually adjustable pole pieces to give you complete control over your tone. Their inherent sound is warm and deep, with punchy high-mids and an open top-end. And, with double the output per wind over standard designs, Magnetic Field Design will easily push any amplifier into its sweet spot.

Three pickup modes for incredible tonal flexibility

G&L strives to give players unparalleled flexibility when shaping their tone, and the Tribute Fallout doesn’t disappoint on this front. On the face of it, the Tribute Fallout has a straightforward control set, with knobs for volume and tone. However, a discrete three-way mini-toggle switch unlocks incredible possibilities, allowing you to switch between parallel, split-coil, and series modes. Each mode offers its own unique sonic strengths, while maintaining the fat and rich sound the MFD pickup is known for.

Saddle-Lock bridge increases resonance and sustain

Another G&L innovation has found its way into the Tribute Fallout bass — the G&L Saddle-Lock bridge. The Saddle-Lock bridge — designed by Leo Fender himself — reduces the lateral movement of the saddle pieces by tightening an Allen screw on the side of the bridge. Additionally, the Saddle-Lock bridge has a solid protrusion on its backside that is sunk firmly into the instrument’s body wood. Together, these two features make it easier for string energy to travel into the body and translate into a rich, resonant, and sustaining sound, making G&L basses popular with rock bassists at Sweetwater.

G&L Tribute Fallout Electric Bass Features:

  • Easy-playing short-scale bass with a deep, powerful voice
  • Magnetic Field Design humbucking pickup delivers high-output passive tone
  • Pickup pole pieces are independently adjustable to fine-tune your sound
  • 3-way toggle lets you switch between parallel, split-coil, and series coil configurations
  • Saddle-Lock bridge improves resonance and sustain

Short scale rules

30" scale bases sound better and are easier to play. Remind me again why people buy long scale bases (Just joking, I actually own one myself). I purchased a B stock Tribute Fallout bass from Sweetwater, which is of Indonesian manufacture and is barely distinguishable from it's USA counterpart. The single pickup is very versatile and in the OMG (Oh MY God) mode, sounds especially amazing. I can't imagine a better sounding or better playing bass guitar.
Music background: Been playing since 1964

Another Sweetwater Miracle

You did it again. Sent me a B Stock at a discount that had nothing wrong with it. The last one was a microscopic tear in a $300 guitar case that I fixed with glue and can't find it now. This one was perfect. I have looked twice for the cosmetic flaw to no avail. About the Guitar. I have a Fender Ultra Jazz Bass and a Fender Ultra Precision Bass. Wanted to try a short scale without spending $2,000. Probably should have bought this first. Outstanding value. My guitar teacher tried it and was impressed. Made in Indonesia? So what. American electronics. I have always loved G and L. NO worries here.
Music background: Hobbyist since 1961.

What B Stock?

I am still looking for the reason this was reduced $. This is not the first time. I got $ off a guitar case and the issue was microscopic and was fixed with glue. As far as the guitar goes, I love it. I have a Fender Ultra Jazz Bass which is a bit better but not 3 times better. My Bass Guitar teacher loves this as well. Outstanding value. Great purchase.
Music background: Amateur since 1961

Short on scale, long on tone.

I am not new to G&L, owning an ASAT Classic and an SB-2, however due to a wrist injury needed a shorter scale than my Jazz bass and after seeing a couple of online videos decided upon the Fallout.

This bass is sizeable for a 30" scale and while there is some modest neck dive on my example, this is not unsurmountable with a broader strap and certainly no more than my Jazz bass.

The sound is simply great.. I was a little concerned that a short scale bass would be a bit short in oomph, but this bass is not short of tone. I play mostly fingerstyle with occasional use of a pick, and there is good heft in the low end.. The MFD pickup is high output and with tone rolled off by about 50% its just a great, pleasing tone.. Going to a single coil would fit fusion and slap techniques for sure.. and OMG mode with a bit of overdrive would fit heaviergrungier styles.

Economic in price, short in scale and long in looks, tone, quality & feel.. There is nothing to dislike at all..

G&L Tribute Fallout Bass Guitar

Geez! I just received my G&L T.F.B.G. short scale last week and I haven't been able to put it down. I love the feel and I love the sound. The Tribute can't be beat for the price. I can't wait to put some LaBella low tension flats on it.
Also, I had the bass at my doorstep one and a half days after I ordered it! How does Sweetwater pull that off?! Thank you Matthew L (my sales rep) for a happy sale. Can't wait to order that G&L LB-100 soon… Bottom line: if you're looking for a short scale P-type bass that has other usable tones, buy this axe!
Music background: Pro-(but still learning) drummer; 3+ years on the bass gigging and trying to learn the bass! LOL
