A Pro-grade Parlor-sized A/E from PRS

Searching for a parlor-sized acoustic-electric guitar with a big voice? The PRS SE P20E is just such an instrument. This acoustic is jam-packed with pro-grade construction and signature PRS appointments, such as a solid mahogany top, X-brace/classical hybrid bracing, a bone nut and saddle, and an eye-catching herringbone rosette and accents. And thanks to its Fishman electronics, this A/E can easily transform from a couch strummer to a workhorse stage-ready instrument. What’s more, its crystal-clear tone and ample projection make it an all-around great-sounding studio guitar. The PRS SE P20E is comfortable, fun to play, and easy to pack up and transport. It belongs in every guitarist’s stable.

X-brace/classical hybrid bracing

PRS's proprietary X-brace/classical hybrid bracing method blends the techniques of some of the most legendary acoustic guitar luthiers in history. This bracing pairs a resonant top with a stiff and reflective back and sides, offering a powerful tone that doesn't mask the intricacies of your playing style. The guitarists here at Sweetwater appreciate that the SE P20E also has a genuine bone nut and saddle for added tonal support and resonance, along with a gorgeous ebony bridge.

Fine tonewoods meet signature PRS appointments

The PRS SE P20E features a parlor-sized body with a solid mahogany top and laminated mahogany back and sides. The neck of this SE P20E follows Paul Reed Smith's wide-fat neck shape and is carved from choice mahogany. A bound ebony fingerboard gives the neck a smooth feel and rich tones. And the signature bird inlays denote the SE P20E as a member of the PRS family. A herringbone rosette and accents complete the picture. The SE P20E manages to strike the perfect balance between modern, eye-catching adornments and a traditional acoustic appearance.

Fishman pickup system provides excellent sound onstage

The Fishman Sonitone under-saddle pickup system continues to win over players across genres for its pristine translation of acoustic tone. That's why PRS outfitted their SE A40 Angelus with a PRS-voiced Fishman Sonitone pickup. Enjoy the dynamic, natural sound of the Sonitone, and shape your acoustic's sound to your liking with its individual rotary controls for master volume and tone. And the controls' low-profile design does away with unsightly electronics dominating the look of your guitar.

PRS SE P20E Parlor Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Parlor-sized acoustic-electric with solid mahogany top delivers nuanced resonance and projection
  • Mahogany back and sides provide warm and rich sound
  • Fishman Sonitone under-saddle pickup system provides stellar amplified tone
  • Mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard is playable and responsive
  • Smaller size makes playing fun and comfortable and allows for convenient transport
  • Eye-catching herringbone rosette and accents
  • Genuine bone nut and saddle add enhanced tone support

Great guitar for the money

VERY playable, good tone for finger style and slide . I run mine though 90 watt Rolland acoustic. Lots of compliments at the gig . Really help with my shoulder problem .

My favorite guitar

I've become a bit obsessed with trying to find my favorite guitars. 12+ acoustics in the house. This is one of my favorites, here's why:

1. It looks cool. Sorry, but that's the first thing you'll notice about it. It looks like it sounds (I have the matte black with white pick guard). The size is great, just right for me 5"9.

2. It sounds good. Mixed reviews out there on this, but I personally love the sound (with a thick pick). It's got a badass throttle, while still maintaining sweet tones.

3. It's durable. I have an Ibanez AC340 and it's awesome, but fragile. This PRS has passed some serious stress tests and holds up very well.

Excellent next-to-the-sofa guitar

This replaced my first acoustic (an Ovation) and it is my go-to guitar. I am an intermediate player...an older guy with no aspirations to gig. I also have a BMG electric and recently, a Taylor mini. I really like this guitar. It is so light and easy to pick up and play. It has what I believe to be a characteristic parlor-style tone. I don't know why but "cardboardy" comes to mind. It doesn't have a great deal of bass-y resonance but I believe that is the nature of the beast. To get the best tone (for me), I usually try to play a bit further from the bridge than I normally would. Playing with the more rounded side of the pick also gives a nice tone. If you want to get an idea for the sound (and can't play one in a store), listen to Bobbie Gentry's "Ode to Billie Joe" (or probably any other Bobbie Gentry song as a Martin parlor was her main guitar). Also, do yourself a favor and google "Justin Johnson We Will Rock You." He does a great acoustic blues version on the PRS parlor. Hearing that sealed the deal for me. I put 10's (Thomastek-Infeld) on mine and it is very easy to bend and play like an electric rocker. I mentioned that I recently got a Taylor mini. I am still trying to dial in the tone I like with some different string types. I haven't gotten to the Thomastek's yet but so far, I am preferring the PRS.
Music background: non-pro older guy intermediate level, have owned 4 or 5 guitars

Great little guitar with some adjustments (at least for the one I received)

I bought this just for sitting around on the back deck, and initially I was a little underwhelmed. Keep in mind I have been playing a Taylor, so not a fair comparison, this isn't in the same price point, and it's not the same body style. That being said, I still felt a little disappointed in the playability of it. Action was quite high, and it was quite difficult to get notes to sustain when sliding or hammering on. I started really inspecting it and noticed a lot of bow in the fret board (if that was noticeable to my naked eye, it was probably quite dramatic). Today I finally got frustrated enough to break out the tool set and a quarter turn on the truss rod did wonders to the playability of this thing… I am really enjoying it so much more now, wish I had not procrastinated so long on giving it some love. Might still make some slight bridge adjustments, but for now the truss rod adjustment has really been a night and day difference.

My advice is to give it a good inspection and adjust as necessary, because this guitar is extremely playable once dialed in. Plays much more like my Taylor now… She's a keeper now for sure ;)

nice little guitar BUT...

I bought this to use as my "cover gig guitar". I like parlor size for this purpose. It has a nice sound, nice electronics BUT the tuning keys SUCK. I will replace them once I get some $ for that. I expect more than cheap tuners on a nice guitar. If you but this guitar just plan to replace them
