27-inch-scale Baritone Tele with Soapbar Pickups

Ever tried to convert a traditional Tele to a baritone? It's no easy feat. There's the neck replacement, the heel fitment, the strings and setup, and then of course, the electronics. The hybrid Squier Paranormal Baritone Cabronita Telecaster does all the heavy lifting for you, so you can start delving into those countersunk country countermelodies and down-tuned metal riffs the moment it hits your door. The Paranormal Baritone Cabronita Tele includes a set of Fender-designed alnico soapbars. These pickups do a respectable job of capturing the low-end breadth and top-end fizz of this Tele's baritone tuning, as well as supplying a perfect starting point for Sabbath-inspired woolen fuzz and blackgazen open drones. Its body carve and string-through design are classic Tele, which makes this Cabronita an easy transition from your other axes. And thanks to its Slim "C" neck profile and standard 1.65-inch nut width, you won't even notice the extended 27-inch scale under normal gigging conditions. Looking for a bari electric that doesn't come with a learning curve? Check out the Squier Paranormal Baritone Cabronita Telecaster from Sweetwater.

Versatile baritone electric

The Squier Baritone Cabronita Telecaster is the type of guitar you want in a studio or production space. (And trust us, it just might end up as your main axe.) Wrote a song but can't get the hook to work? Don't capo up — try it down a perfect fourth! Can't get a traditional bass or electric to sit in a mix? Plug in the Baritone Cabronita.

Classic Tele design

A traditional Telecaster design eliminates any obstacles standing between you and all the Squier Paranormal Baritone Cabronita has to offer. Its solid poplar body is light in the hands and comfortable slung over the shoulder. And its Slim "C" maple neck makes a versatile platform for fingerboard pyrotechnics to traditional styles of chording. Together with its soapbar single-coils, it's a recipe for a good time in virtually any practice or performance setting.

Fender-designed soapbar pickups

The select alnico pickups in the Paranormal Baritone Cabronita set a new standard for Telecaster excellence. Cleaned up, they're punchy and sweet and sparkle like a shiny new dime. But crank up the gain, and these soapbars spring to life with a compressed midrange and a fizzy presence that beckon the fingers toward fuzz-drenched power chords and detuned metal chugging.

The Squier Paranormal Series

To create the Paranormal series, the mad scientists at Squier broke down a selection of Fender’s most popular designs to the atomic level and smashed them together, bringing to life some of the coolest aberrant axes we’ve ever seen. Flipped headstocks, Frankenstein electronics, necks on bodies to which they don’t belong — these guitars and basses break all the rules! So, if you’ve ever desired to chuck a set of P-90s into a Cabronita, play a Mustang with the voice of a Strat, or own a J-Bass dressed up as a P-Bass, you’ll love the Squier Paranormal series.

Squier Paranormal Baritone Cabronita Telecaster Features:

  • Part of Squier's otherworldly Paranormal series
  • Traditional Tele design makes this bari an easy transition axe
  • Solid poplar body is comfortable in the hands and light on the shoulder
  • String-through hardtail bridge maximizes resonance and sustain

Great QC

Plays great after tweaking the setup a little. Rolled fret ends and finger board. I was surprised. The tuners are a little cheap feeling but seem to function fine. It is shorter than my Jazzmaster which was surprising. Very compact for a baritone and the soapbar pickups sound good. The pickup cover seems to be glued on so no easy color swaps. Replacement control cover and pickguard hard to find if you are modding you may need to make your own or get one custom made. Intonation was easy to get dialed in as was pickup height and pole pieces. It was pretty close thanks to SW's inspector but I tweaked it to my liking. Truss rod needed no adjustment. Nut may need a slight deepening of the slots. Mini pots in the control cavity if you care. Works fine for me.

Neck pickup is rich and powerful. Bridge is twangy with plenty of sparkle and spank. Middle position is the Goldilocks sound for me. You can even get jazzy or AM radio with the tone knob all the way off.

Overall fantastic guitar for this price point especially if you can call your personal sales rep and get a % off deal. It's really fun to have this solid baritone in my collection.

Squier Paranormal Baritone Cabronita Telecaster

I bought this to be a low cost entry into the world of drop tuning. I was unable to find any flaws in the guitar I was shipped. It has a very nice look and the setup was good enough to start playing out of the box. No case was produced for this model, so that is a small issue for those who would want to travel with it. I'm sure with some extra padding you can find a bass case that will work. The P-90's are clear and ring out nicely. All around a good buy for those who want to experiment with baritone tunings.

Nice guitar. Finish and electronics are all perfect. Sounds good, no extra noise from switches. Setup was good right out of the box. I like it.

New but fun and cool

I've only had this a week, I think I ordered it from here the day they were announced, but so far it's fun, inspiring and sounds cool. It's also light and comfortable and the neck is slim and not terribly different than playing a 25 1/2 inch scale but boy does it sound different. I'd never even held a baritone guitar before but from hearing and seeing them (all models that is, including Danos) on Youtube videos for several years now I figured why not give one a try. I already knew this was a winner from hearing and reading about the black version that quickly sold out when the first batch of paranormals came out a couple of years ago now, so I didn't feel like I was taking much of a risk with this one. Turns out I wasn't. Anyway, too soon to give a full fair rating but I am anyway since I feel confident enough to say that if you are baritone curious, you can't go wrong with this one. It's everything I hoped it would be.

Good little baritone guitar. Be aware of the input jack though.

This was purchased for my husband -- he's a bassist/guitarist, I'm "just a guitarist". In case he doesn't get around to a review I'll add this one.
Nice little baritone! Cute as a bug. Plays okay out of the box but could use a pro setup, which it's getting.
In comparison to his PRS 277 bari, the tone isn't as rich and the output is quieter. I was able to get what I think is a pretty good sound thru the board by simply more gain and eq-ing, very usable for our 2 guitar duo.
BUT, do be aware that for some reason, (at least on this bari), the input jack is designed so that a 1/4 guitar cable has a tendency to simply fall out. ?? Not sure why Fender did this.
We were about to use this bari as a backup while the PRS was in the shop, and the cable falling-out issue made it just too unreliable. Husband wouldn't let me use duck tape, and we managed to get the PRS back in time for a gig.
Long story short, we're getting the jack replaced/repaired. I'm not a bari expert, but I think it's nice guitar for the $, other than the jack. I'm not sure if it's this particular guitar and others do not have the problem, but I think it's been mentioned in other reviews.
Music background: life long band member - guitarist/vocalist.
