Easy and Intuitive Creation Station for Podcasts

The Mixcast 4 from TASCAM is a super easy-to-use podcast workstation that ditches all of the complicated settings. With four microphone inputs (TRS/XLR combo jacks) and four headphone outputs with independent volume controls, this stress-free station is the perfect fit for producing small group podcasts. MixCast 4 is optimized for streaming, allowing Bluetooth connectivity to record and mix phone calls with ease while the Mix Minus function simultaneously engages to reduce feedback for clear, high quality performance. An easily navigable 5-inch touch panel gives you access to eight sound effects banks including "applause," "alarm," and "wrong answer," all triggered by eight large color-coded sound pads to create an entertaining live environment for your shows. Sweetwater recommends taking advantage of TASCAM's included Podcast Editor software to help you get up and running from day one, making track arming, effects assignment, and audio editing clear and easy. MixCast 4 handles it all, recording up to eight combinations of inputs at a time (mic, 1/4-inch, 1/8-inch, Bluetooth, and USB inputs) to the internal SD card with ease, meeting every need of your podcast. The Mixcast 4 is the versatile, yet simple to use podcast station that you've been waiting for!

Convenient layout for enhancing the podcast experience

The TASCAM Mixcast 4 makes it easy to fine tune your audio without getting lost in a maze of controls. The eight drawbars on the face panel are clearly marked, displaying four mic channels, and volume controls for USB devices, cellphone, Bluetooth, and sound effects. Each channel gives you mute and solo options, corresponding on your digital display screen to make monitoring your live audio easier than ever. Control your monitor and headphone volumes with the only five knobs on the Mixcast 4, and easily cue all of your desired podcast effects on the eight color-coded sound pads beneath your display screen. The back panel is just as easy to navigate, giving you four in/out jacks for headphones, one each for your monitor and stereo line-in/TRRS preference, and four mic inputs. Other than the USB jack, that's it! TASCAM delivers the quality necessities to boost your podcast experience without drowning you in endless knobs that clutter your workstation.

Love the Mixcast

I purchased the Mixcast 4 Podcast workstation because of the versatility and because I've owned other Tascam products in the past and they've always been "dead On" when it came to quality and craftsmanship. I could have spent much less but I chose to go with the best. I love that I can add my own audio into the unit and play it on demand. I highly recommend this product to anyone getting into podcasting.

A Great Mixer/USB Interface and More

I purchased the MixCast4 as a replacement for my 20+ year old Behringer EuroRack mixer that required cumbersome I/O interfacing with computers and digital audio input devices. With the Tascam reputation for quality, build, and performance, It eased my decision to go for the Tascam Unit instead of one of its competitors. That decision proved to be a great one.

My first impression of the MixCast 4 is solid. The weight and solid feel of it is unmistakable and the control feel and smoothness is definitely on a par with the pro broadcast mixers i've experienced in the typical radio station. The large touchscreen interface for infrequently used functions is straightforward and easy to use. My initial test is typically attempting to use a product without referring to the manual. I was able to get the MixCast up and running without ever cracking the cover of the user manual. Setup of mic and a line input were easy and the individual channel level metering on the color display are easy to see at a glance.

The MixCast4 has a clean appearance on the desk with all cable entry and exits to the rear leaving the area on the top and front of the mixer for easy access by the host. The redundant host headset jack on the front is in an unobtrusive area and much more convenient than having to drape the host's headset cord around from the rear of the mixer. The backlit applique on the top panel is a durable choice that will age well and doesn't show fingerprints.

Sound quality and versatility is great. The effects keys are in a great location and easy to use. Overall this is a great choice for someone looking for a very versatile and attractive mixer, especially for those who are podcasting or broadcasting from an home studio.

Best Podcast Mixer Easily

This mixer is fantastic. The feel and quality is great, the layout is intuitive, the faders feel solid, and the sound quality is great. There are a few minor limitations with the launch keys that could easily get fixed with a firmware update, but it's not a big deal.

I use this mixer mostly for Microsoft Teams presentations and podcast recordings, and it works great for both applications. I'm using it with an SM7B mic and SE535 earphones. I couldn't be happier with it.

I looked at the Rode and Zoom options, but I went with the Tascam due to overall value, overall layout/aesthetic (Yes, it's different than the others), and the ease of use.

An update on a prior review I left

I previously left a 4 1/2 star review. After having the Mixcast4 a bit longer and diving deeper into it, I wanted to edit and update it to a solid 5 stars, but it looks like editing reviews isn't available. So here is an update.

Tascam has since updated the firmware a couple of times since my last review, and they must be listening to people as the updates have been very welcome. The sound pads received a massive update in functionality and they are now easier than ever to set up and use. The menus and touch screen options have been greatly improved. The bluetooth stability in my first review has been remedied, thus everything is stable and rock solid.

I recently bought a Model 12 originally as a replacement for the Mixcast4, as I figured I could use the extra inputs and have always enjoyed a true mixer style layout. After the firmware updates, I almost regret the Model 12 purchase. Almost. The recording files are individual, which was a major plus for me. Leading me to my last point...

The only real gripe (and it's relatively minor) is the polywav format that Tascam chose to use for the Mixcast4. If they can change to individual wav files per channel in a future update, I would truly consider this the perfect piece of hardware for podcasting.
