When it comes to microphones, Shure has long been the leader in the industry, known for delivering high-quality, reliable products such as the Shure SM57, Shure SM7B etc. 

Today, I’ll be checking out the Shure MoveMic Two Kit, a wireless lavalier microphone system designed to cater to content creators, interviewers, and other professionals who need a portable and user-friendly audio solution. 

Having spent some time with this kit, I have developed a well-rounded opinion of its strengths and weaknesses. Here’s a detailed review of the Shure MoveMic Two Kit.

Overview

The Shure MoveMic Two Kit comes with a pair of wireless lavalier microphones, a receiver that can connect to a camera, and a durable carrying case. Off the bat, the design and packaging are aesthetically pleasing. The microphones and the receiver are sleek and modern-looking, and they charge conveniently via USB-C. 

The kit also includes windshields for the mics and various mounting accessories, making it versatile for different recording scenarios. Additionally, the free app provided by Shure enhances the functionality of this kit, allowing for easy recording and management of audio files.

Sound

The sound quality of the Shure MoveMic Two Kit is somewhat disappointing. While it’s certainly workable, I found that compared with other microphones, particularly cabled ones, the sound quality was not as impressive. 

As you can hear in my video below, the audio tends to be a bit flat and lacks the depth that I expect from professional-grade equipment, and in order to make it work the audio required some quite heavy EQ to remove mud and low-end build up. 

This could be a deal-breaker for those who prioritize pristine sound quality in their recordings. However, I did not encounter any recording glitches or distortion, and the Bluetooth connection was stable throughout my use, which is a significant plus.

Usability

One of the more positive aspects of the Shure MoveMic Two Kit is its ease of use. 

Setting up the microphones and the receiver is straightforward, and the wireless operation via Bluetooth eliminates the hassle of dealing with cables. The free Shure app is intuitive and user-friendly, allowing for seamless recording and management of audio files.

I particularly liked that I was able to monitor recordings in real-time and adjust settings on the fly. The kit’s receiver is also compatible with cameras, making it an excellent choice for video creators who need a reliable audio solution for their videos. 

Overall, this kit offers extremely strong usability, and in my opinion was the most positive aspect of using the Shure MoveMic Two Kit.

Value

When it comes to value, the Shure MoveMic Two Kit is somewhat of a mixed bag. On one hand, you get the convenience of wireless operation, an easy-to-use app, and a sleek, durable design. 

On the other hand, as mentioned earlier the sound quality leaves much to be desired, especially given the price point. I feel that the kit is more expensive than it should be considering the quality of the audio. 

For the price, I would expect a richer, more detailed sound. However, if usability and convenience are your primary concerns, this kit still offers a reasonable value for those willing to overlook some of the sound quality issues.

Durability

The Shure MoveMic Two Kit does pretty well when it comes to durability. The microphones, receiver, and carrying case are all well-constructed and feel robust. 

The sleek design doesn’t come at the expense of sturdiness, and I have no doubts as to the long-term durability of this kit. The USB-C charging ports are also a nice touch, as they are more durable and reliable compared to older micro-USB ports. 

Overall, this kit is built to withstand regular use in various recording environments.

Verdict

In summary, the Shure MoveMic Two Kit is a well-designed, user-friendly wireless microphone system that excels in terms of usability and durability. 

However, its sound quality is a letdown, especially considering the price. As mentioned, it was necessary to process the audio in post quite significantly in order to achieve a usable sound for content. 

If you’re a content creator or interviewer who values ease of use and a sleek design over top-notch audio performance, this kit might still be a good fit for you. However, for those who prioritize sound quality above all else, it may be worth exploring other options, especially considering the price of this kit.
