D’Addario: innovative strings since 1680

When you go with D’Addario, you receive far more than a great set of strings. You’re benefiting from three centuries of string-making experience. The D’Addario family tradition began in 1680 in the tiny town of Salle, Italy, where they made assorted instrument strings for over 200 years before relocating to New York in 1905. Since then, the D’Addario family has become a leader in string innovation. They designed the modern winding machine, introduced ultra-reliable hexagonal core wires, and pioneered the colored-coded ball end movement. More than 300 years since the family started making strings, D’Addario continues to set a global standard for quality and reliability. And every day, more than 500,000 strings emerge from their USA-based workshops.

the green-striped hard candy is lime! (and the strings are perfect)

Making the switch to extra-light strings on my acoustics has been a real treat. I really cannot think of any reason why I needed any more volume than this. The playing ease up and down the fretboard is a heck of a lot of fun.
I was bracing myself for the green-striped hard candy to be spearmint, but NO! Delicious Lime Flavor! Keep up the good work, Sweetwater!

The only acoustic string for me

I've tried different strings on my acoustic guitars but I always come back to D'Addario. For sound, feel, playability and price they can't be beat. They are the only acoustic string I'll use at any price.

The very best

Once I tried these strings I always come back.

Lighter is Better

I have several acoustic guitars. I find that playing my electric Strat with 10-46 gauge strings is much easier than my Martins with 12 or 13-52s. So I experimented by putting these 10-47 extra light gauge D'Addario strings on the Martin (Same 25 1/2" gauge as the Strat). The difference is playability is astounding. It is so much easier. But what about the sound? That was a real shocker. I had the chance to do an A=B comparison with two guitars each with new sets of strings, standard light gauge and these extra lights. The extra lights had better overall response, and slightly higher volume. This is the exact opposite of what I expected. The strings are really reasonably priced. I like how D'Addario winds them in three groups of 2. It makes it very easy to unwind and choose the right color-coded string. The lighter gauge low E string at 47 can still be tuned down to a D without getting flabby. Excellent strings.

Typical Awesome D'Addario Quality

Some acoustic guitars are crafted to support heavier gauge strings (starting at the nut). Others have a sweet spot for lighter strings. Woods on an instrument make a huge difference in sound characteristics. My 1974 Guild acoustic (all maple) responds really well with these light gauge. Nice balanced sound overall. Easy on the neck from a tension perspective. Intonation is spot on.
