A Great Introduction to the 7-string Electric Guitar

Looking for a great entry point into the world of 7-string guitars? If so, you’ll love the GRG7221QA. Based on Ibanez's RG series 7-string models, this extended range guitar's poplar body delivers a balanced, resonant sound, while its twin humbuckers kick out a range of furious tones. And it looks as great as it sounds, thanks to a quilted maple art grain top. The GRG7221QA's hardtail bridge supplies you with maximum tuning stability, while its maple neck and purpleheart fingerboard provide the kind of effortless playability that put Ibanez on the metal map. Aggressive-looking black hardware completes the package. Want to take your playing to the next level? Get a GRG7221QA.

A duo of Infinity R pickups gives you massive tonal range

Loaded with a duo of Infinity R humbuckers, the Ibanez GRG7221QA yields a range of impressive tones. The neck position humbucker is voiced for warmer, richer tone, while the bridge humbucker is a brilliant lead pickup: vibrant, yet snarling with an enhanced midrange output when you push it. If you're after maximum tonal tenacity, then the Ibanez GRG7221QA will give your amplifier what you need.

Smooth-playing, fast-action neck enhances your speed

The guitarists at Sweetwater will tell you: a guitar is only as playable as its neck. Good thing the Ibanez GRG7221QA has a smooth and fast-playing maple neck. This comfortable neck is capped by a purpleheart fingerboard with a super-flat 15.7" radius and 24 jumbo frets, giving you the agility to execute fast single-note runs with ease.

Enjoy the tuning stability benefits of a hardtail bridge

Dive-bombs can be fun, but many guitarists prefer the absolute stability of a hardtail bridge — legions of ace guitarists won't go anywhere near a whammy bar. If you're in this camp, then the Ibanez GRG7221QA is your kind of axe. The GRG7221QA's fixed bridge anchors the strings, giving you a rock-solid platform for your music.

Ibanez GRG7221QA 7-string Electric Guitar Features:

  • Poplar body exhibits impressive balance and resonance
  • Quilted maple art grain top provides an eye-catching appearance
  • Infinity R humbuckers deliver a range of furious high-output tones
  • Smooth-playing maple neck and purpleheart fingerboard lend themselves to fast action

Very nice

Don't let the price fool you. This gutiar came in super nice. All it needed was a minor Truss rod adjustment and it was good to go. It plays very nice aswell.

Amazing budget 7 string!

Got this as my first 7 string guitar. It sounds amazing and plays like.butter. my only issue is personal as I like to downtune it do drop Ab and with the short leg scale length the loa Ab was a bit floppy even with thicker gage strings. Otherwise this is a killer deal and looks amazing!
Music background: Classically trained musician mostly in trumpet and voice. Love playing metal on guitar and bass.

Pleasantly Surprised

I bought this guitar with the intent of learning how to play a 7 string. I didn't want something that would break the bank if I couldn't get used to the 7 string. At first, it was a rough transition period, having a wider neck and an extra string. But eventually you do get used to it and it feels weird to play a 6 string now. This guitar made the transition a lot easier and I was really surprised by the quality, sound, and playability of the guitar. I wasn't expecting much for this price, but it honestly feels like a more expensive guitar. Guitar was set up pretty perfectly, low action with little to no buzz. Stays in tune surprisingly well. The guitar handles drop tunings well. Pickups are fairly decent for the price. Can sound a little muddy at times, but it's not bad. The neck is probably my favorite thing about the guitar. The wizard neck is super thin and it makes playing guitar so much easier. Obviously, it's all preference. But, I have small hands so the wizard neck changed my world. The fretwork is also very good with very very minor sharpness in the edges. The only thing that I had a very slight issue with was the input jack. Other than that, pretty much perfect. This was my first guitar from Ibanez and I'm so blown away by the quality that I'm heavily considering picking up a prestige or j custom RG model. If you're looking for an affordable guitar to test the waters of the 7 string world and a great guitar in general, I highly recommend this one.
